Padma Shri Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Eminent Environmentalist at Indo Global College of Architecture during National Conference
National Conference “Comprehensive Village Development - Feasibility & Sustainability” was organised by INDO GLOBAL COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, ABHIPUR near New Chandigarh on 23rd February, 2018. The conference was attended by more than 350 delegates comprising of Architects, Planners, Engineers, Heritage Lovers, environmentalists, NGO’s and Government Agencies and students of Architecture and Engineering Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Eminent Environmentalist was the chief guest and Dr. Gurdev Singh Gill-President, India Canada Village Improvement Trust and Sh. P.L Kaler- Former Principal Chief conservator of Forests, Punjab were the Guests of Honour. Ar. S.S. Sekhon, Director of the College welcomed the delegates and delivered the key note address. He said that it is universally recognized that every human being has a right to live with dignity. Since insanitary conditions of our villages violate the human dignity especially of women, so the facility of underground sewerage system and restoration of ponds is of paramount importance. He showed the glimpses of the work done in various villages of Punjab which he visited last month and said that his visit to village Seechewal and Village Chakar were like a pilgrimage to a sacred place. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said “Where there is a Will there is a Way”. He called upon the professionals and students to come out of their shells and spread into villages to serve with full commitment and dedication. A video film was screened by him on this occasion showcasing the ‘Seechewal Model’ adopted for the development of his native village Seechewal. Guest of Honour Dr. Gurdev Singh Gill said about 200 villages have been transformed in 15 years, so with this pace it will take about 40 years to transform all the villages of Punjab. We need innovative technology and adequate financial resources. He called upon NRI’s to contribute more liberally for this noble cause. Guest of Honour Sh. P.L Kaler stressed that since beautiful environment create beautiful minds, so we must strive for environmental beautification of our villages by extensive plantation of evergreen; flowering trees and fruit trees. Ar. S. S Bahga, Eminent architect inspired the delegates by giving an overview of the model villages in various foreign countries. Ar. Sanjay Goel, Chairman IIA, Punjab Chapter spoke about Village Development and Sustainability . He said the work done in villages should not only uplift the livability of the people but should be sustainable too. Er. Balkar Singh, Assistant General Manager, Punjab Energy Development Agency made a presentation "Promotion of Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency in Villages" and highlighted Government Schemes, Policies and Initiatives. Dr. R. S Ghuman-Professor Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development, Chandigarh made a presentation on Domestic water use pattern in rural Punjab. He remarked that water harvesting, saving and efficient use is not a choice but is a need of the hour. Er. M. P Singh-Consultant, Erthizens Eco-Friendly systems and Er. Pritpal Singh, Senior Engineer- Punjab State Council for Science and Technology discussed various Sewerage Disposal Systems. Dr. Krishan Chand, Associate Professor-Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development and Dr. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali-Project Director (ATMA), Ministry of Agriculture focused on Environmental Beautification and Greening of Punjab. On this occasion Sh.Sukhdev Singh Singla, Chairman, Indo Global Education Foundation said that a road map with comprehensive planning and total commitment is required to develop every village as a Model Village with a combination of Rural Ethos and City Facilities. Sh. Manav Singla,Chief executive Officer of Indo Global Colleges said that views of the experts were thought provoking and inspiring. Prof. Swati Behl, anchored the proceedings of the conference. Ar. Sumit Kaur, Principal of Architecture College thanked all the delegates and eminent personalities for enlightening and inspiring the gathering.
